Rosaline
I wrote this poem as part of a textual transformation task on my English degree, reinterpreting Romeo and Juliet through the dramatic monologue of Rosaline (Juliet’s cousin, a Capulet that Romeo professes to be madly in love with at the beginning of the play). I wrote it in the style of the language used in the play, using common Petrarchan sonnet style references to neoclassical Gods and Goddess, also quoting sections directly from Romeo and Juliet and interweaving references to the soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann’s film version of the play too.
